  49.     The best printout quality you will get with the "hpijs"
  50.     driver, provided by <a
  51.     href="http://hplipopensource.com/">HP</a>
  52.     (compatible to the HP DeskJet 990C), especially the 1200-dpi high
  53.     resolution mode gives excellent photo quality (the rendered bitmap
  54.     is 1200x1200 dpi, but the printer hardware does an interpolation
  55.     then and prints with the printer's highest resolution). Also
  56.     the Gimp-Print driver is reported to work (Model setting:
  57.     "pcl-900").<p>

  59.     When used with HP's "hpijs" driver, this printer
  60.     auto-detects the paper type and ink cartridge type and does
  61.     appropriate dithering and colour adjustment internally, controlled
  62.     by the hardware. So when Ghostscript with the "hpijs"
  63.     driver only renders the image with 300 or 600 dpi, higher
  64.     resolutions are used for the internal dithering. So if you insert
  65.     photo paper, the printer will print in photo quality, no paper
  66.     type choice in the driver's options is needed. There is also
  67.     a special high resolution mode where the image is rendered in 1200
  68.     dpi and interpolated to 4800x1200 dpi by the hardware, without
  69.     paper detection, intended for photo paper only.<p>

  71.     Border-less (full bleed) printing on paper sizes up to
  72.     Oufuku-Hagaki is supported with the "hpijs"
  73.     driver.<p>

  75.     In addition this device copies and prints photos directly
  76.     from CompactFlash, SmartMedia, and Memory Stick, but these
  77.     functions are currently only controllable by the front panel, not
  78.     by the PC. To choose photos from your memory card, the machine
  79.     makes an index sheet with thumbnails of all photos and you can
  80.     mark which photos you want to print and how they should get
  81.     printed with a pen on the sheet and then you scan the sheet to
